Overview
Mardi Himal and Annapurna Base Camp share physical trail infrastructure at Landruk and Chhomrong, and this itinerary is the direct, reverse-direction counterpart to mardi-himal-trek.md Strategy 6, which documents the same combination starting from the Annapurna Base Camp side. Here, the trip begins on the Mardi Himal side: the standard ascent from Kande via Australian Camp, Forest Camp, Low Camp, and High Camp to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m) — a genuine high-altitude climax and, at 4,500 m, technically the higher of this trip's two summits, even though it comes first while trekkers are least fatigued. From there, rather than descending to Siding or Landruk-Ghandruk as the standalone Mardi Himal strategies do, this itinerary continues the descent specifically toward Landruk, joining the Annapurna Base Camp trail network directly. A climb through Chhomrong and the same proven Sinuwa-Bamboo-Dovan-Himalaya-Deurali approach used by every other strategy in this document leads to the second high-altitude climax at Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m) itself — genuinely lower in elevation than Mardi Himal Base Camp, but reached after eight cumulative trekking days rather than five, meaning it tests endurance more than altitude tolerance at this stage of the trip. The descent finishes via Jhinu Danda's hot springs and Nayapul, closing a single, non-repeating loop that touches two entirely distinct mountain massifs — Mardi Himal's quiet, forested ridge country and the Annapurna Sanctuary's dramatic glacial amphitheater — without a single return trip to Pokhara in between.
Highlights
- Two complete high-altitude trekking destinations in one continuous trip: Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m) and Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m)
- Machhapuchhre seen from two entirely different angles across the trip — Mardi's forested ridge approach and the Sanctuary's dramatic glacial amphitheater
- Direct trail continuity through Landruk and Chhomrong — no repeated backtracking to Pokhara between the two treks
- The natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda as a well-earned finale after twelve days and two separate summit pushes
- The single most complete Annapurna-region trekking experience achievable in under two weeks
