Overview
This is the itinerary most frequently recommended to trekkers who have the extra two to three days to spare, and for good reason: it adds Poon Hill — one of Nepal's single most photographed sunrise viewpoints — to the standard Annapurna Base Camp route, without meaningfully increasing the difficulty of any individual day. From Nayapul, the trail follows the Bhurungdi Khola valley via Tikhedhunga to the demanding stone staircase at Ulleri, continuing to Ghorepani (2,840-2,860 m) for the first genuine high-altitude night. A predawn walk to Poon Hill (3,210 m) delivers a 360-degree panorama spanning Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri I, and Machhapuchhre before the trail descends through Tadapani to rejoin the standard route at Chhomrong. From there, the ascent to Base Camp follows the same proven path as the Classic itinerary — Sinuwa, Bamboo, Dovan, Himalaya, Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp — reaching 4,130 m with genuinely more accumulated acclimatisation than any shorter strategy in this document manages. The descent retraces the route to Jhinu Danda for the traditional hot-spring finale before the walk out and drive back to Pokhara. This is the route to recommend to trekkers who want both of the Annapurna region's headline experiences — the sunrise viewpoint and the glacial amphitheater — in one continuous, well-paced trip, rather than choosing between them.
