Overview
This itinerary follows the Classic route to Ghunsa, then branches off before continuing north. From Ghunsa, a side trail climbs over Nango La (4,795 m) to the ancient trade village of Olangchung Gola, home to the 450-year-old Deki Chholing Gompa. After exploring the village, the trail rejoins the main corridor below Ghunsa and continues through Khambachen and Lhonak to Pangpema, returning via the same descent route.
Highlights
- The Classic North Base Camp experience plus the Olangchung Gola detour
- Nango La (4,795 m), a genuine high pass almost no standard itinerary includes
- Deki Chholing Gompa, a 450-year-old monastery
- Genuinely off-the-beaten-path — very few trekkers take this route
