Overview
This itinerary follows the Classic route as far as Dingboche, then branches east into the Imja Valley toward Chukhung, a quiet yak-grazing settlement at 4,730 m that standard EBC itineraries almost never visit. From Chukhung, an acclimatisation hike reaches Chukhung Ri for close-up views of Lhotse's south face, Ama Dablam from an entirely new angle, and the approach to Island Peak Base Camp — all of it visible without any technical climbing gear. After two days in the valley, the route rejoins the main trail at Dingboche and continues up the standard corridor through Lobuche to Gorak Shep and the familiar EBC and Kala Patthar climax, descending the same classic route back through Tengboche, Namche, and Lukla. Sixteen days, two genuinely different high-altitude landscapes, and a real sense that you saw something most of the trekkers on the main trail missed entirely.
