Overview
This is the most serious undertaking in the entire Langtang region, and the only route in this document that requires full camping support, glacier travel, and technical gear. The first seven days follow the same ground as the Classic Langtang Valley Trek — Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa with a Kyanjin Ri acclimatisation day — giving the necessary altitude foundation for what follows. From Kyanjin Gompa, the trail continues deeper into the valley beyond the usual turnaround point, reaching Langshisa Kharka (4,110 m) and then Ngegang (4,450 m), where the last teahouse sits before the terrain becomes fully remote. The Ganja La crossing itself (5,122 m) is a technical, glaciated pass that requires crampons, careful route-finding, and a weather window. Beyond the pass, the descent crosses three remote valleys — Keldang, Dukpu, and Tarkeghyang — before reaching the Helambu-region villages of Tarkeghyang and eventually Melamchi Pul Bazaar for the road transfer back to Kathmandu.
Highlights
- Ganja La Pass (5,122 m) — a genuine technical pass crossing, the most demanding single day in any Langtang-region route
- A full traverse from the Langtang Valley to the Helambu region, ending at a different road head from the start
- Kyanjin Gompa, Kyanjin Ri, and the upper Langtang Glacier before the pass
- Camping under the Himalaya — a genuine expedition experience rather than a teahouse trek
