Overview
This is the itinerary the overwhelming majority of operator sources in this document's set treat as standard, and it delivers the complete circuit without adding the genuine extra week Tsum Valley requires or the extra demanding day Manaslu Base Camp asks for as a mandatory rather than optional stop. From Machha Khola, the trail follows the Budi Gandaki River upstream through Jagat and Philim — both formal MCAP checkpoints — and Deng and Ghap, where the trail's own landslide-prone stretch and its shift to Tibetan-style architecture both occur within a short span of each other. Namrung, Lho, and Shyala carry the trail into genuinely high, dramatic terrain, with Manaslu itself coming fully into view for the first time at Lho. Samagaon, the Nubri region's own principal village, hosts this itinerary's single acclimatisation day, spent on whichever combination of Pungyen Gompa, Birendra Tal, or Manaslu Base Camp a trekker's own fitness and weather allow. From there, Samdo — with its own genuine Tibetan-border viewpoint — and Dharmasala stage the trip's defining day: an early, cold start over Larkya La's genuine glacial moraine, past the ruins of Larkya Bazaar, to a glacial cirque panorama on the far side. The descent through Bimthang, Tilje, and Thonje finishes at Dharapani, where this trail physically joins the Annapurna Circuit's own network. Fifteen days, the complete standard circuit, and the itinerary every other strategy in this document either extends or compresses from.
Highlights
- The complete standard circuit around Manaslu, crossing Larkya La and finishing on the Annapurna Circuit's own trail network at Dharapani
- Samagaon's own acclimatisation choices — Pungyen Gompa, Birendra Tal, or a full push to Manaslu Base Camp
- Larkya Bazaar, a deserted former Tibetan trading post passed en route to the pass
- Bimthang's own genuinely photogenic setting, with Pongkar Lake reachable as a real side trip
