Overview

This is the itinerary for trekkers who've read Strategy 1's own Samagaon day and Samdo stop and don't want to choose between Manaslu Base Camp and the Tibetan-border viewpoint — both are genuinely worthwhile, and this strategy builds in the extra days to do both properly rather than picking one. From Machha Khola, the route follows the exact same approach as Strategy 1 through Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Lho, and Shyala to Samagaon, but rather than a single acclimatisation day with a choice to make, this itinerary spends two full days here — one for the gentler Pungyen Gompa and Birendra Tal pairing, a second, genuinely demanding full day for Manaslu Base Camp itself. From Samdo, rather than continuing straight to Dharmasala, a further dedicated day reaches the Tibetan border viewpoint — a real, rare cross-border vantage point this document's own source material treats as a genuine highlight rather than a routine acclimatisation walk. With both of this trek's own signature side trips completed, the itinerary continues to Dharmasala and the standard Larkya La crossing, unchanged in substance from Strategy 1. Seventeen days, four acclimatisation days in total — genuinely the most thorough altitude-adaptation schedule of any strategy in this document short of the full Tsum Valley extension's own greater length — and a real answer for trekkers who don't want to leave either of this trek's own best side trips on the table.

Highlights

  • Both Manaslu Base Camp and the Samdo Tibetan-border viewpoint built into the standard itinerary rather than left as an either/or choice
  • Genuinely the most complete acclimatisation-day tally of any strategy in this document
  • The full standard Larkya La circuit, unchanged in substance from Strategy 1
  • A real, extra reserve day at Samagaon specifically to recover before the demanding stretch ahead
